Advertising Introduction

An advertisement is an announcement in a public medium, promoting the product/service or event. Advertising is used to reach a large number of people and entice them to purchase/consume the product being promoted.

An Advertising Campaign is a strategy that is carried out across mediums to promote and raise awareness of a product/service. Advertising campaigns involve designing the content, identifying the target market and placing them onto different mediums. After the launch of the advertising campaign, the success of it is evaluated.

Adverts can appear in several different mediums including television, social media platforms, radio, newspapers, and magazines. This allows the advert to be seen by a large audience, which will lead to more people purchasing/consuming the product.

The main purpose of an advertisement is to increase recognition of the brand/product and communicate information about the product to the public. It is also used to increase the number of sales of the product. Advertising helps to increase the attractiveness of a product to the audience and persuades them to purchase/consume the product.

An Example of an Advertisement:
M&M Advertisement: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x1PjAoyDqFE

This advertisement is for M&M's, which is a brand that produces colourful button-shaped chocolates. This advert is promoting the chocolate product and spreading awareness to increase the company's revenue. The advertisement uses a story to promote their product, which helps to attract the audience watching. It denotes a man who enters his wife's bedroom to find her with an m&m in her bed. This will create a humorous effect and make the audience laugh. This will also enhance M&M's brand image as products that are advertised to a mass audience on television, are likely to be popular.
